Our organization relies and depends on parents to volunteer to coach the teams. As of yet, we do not have any paid coaches, every team needs a volunteer coach. Please click on either Youth Recreational Coach or Travel Coach for more information.

Recreational Coaches registering their players must pay in full for Recreational Soccer. Discounts will be issued by the end of the season.

Coaches Training Classes & Information
HSA RECREATIONAL SOCCER COACHES TO DO LIST:
1. IMMEDIATELY: Call the players and their parents and inform them that you are the coach of their team. Let them know when the season begins, the time and place of their first game and that they are expected to bring a soccer ball, shin guards and water bottle to every game.
2. DAY OF FIRST GAME: Come to the Recreational soccer office at the field on day your team's first game and pick up your team T-shirts if you didn' receive them at the coaches meeting. Informational handouts and picture information will be given out at that time as well.
AT FIRST GAME: Meet with parents and players before the first game and introduce yourself, pass out team t-shirts and picture information, pass out handouts (listed above in #2), discuss team rules (you decide team rules), emphasize to the parents the importance of timely pick-up and drop-offs and what to do if bad weather (you are in charge of canceling games if you feel the weather is inappropriate). HSA and/or referees will cancel game only if there is lightning; otherwise the teams are expected to play. You should tell your players to show up at the field and then both teams can discuss the situation with the opposing coach and the referees. Both coaches and players are asked to show up to the fields to make a group decision between the 2 coaches and the referee, not a unilateral decision made by one coach before the game. Please be responsible and respectful and show up for the games despite the "predicted" weather; the other teams' players need an opponent to play the game, so please do no have your team just not show up,
4. WHAT YOU NEED: Roster with parents names and numbers, soccer balls, cones/discs, pennies, water and medical kit. You already have the roster. Everything else except the medical kit can be picked up every week outside the pole barn near the concession stand. You should have your own little medical kit with band-aids and an ice bag - anything more serious, you should defer to the parents and/or call 911.
5.HELPFUL HINT: The game is the best teacher. Don't worry about trying to set up fancy drills or elaborate warm-ups. A handful of game-like activities repeated throughout the season should get you to game time every week. Observe more and talk less by letting the kids play and solve the soccer problems on their own. You need to create an environment in which there are appropriate soccer problems, not behavior problems. If there is behavior problems, then you should intervene and make the necessary changes (i.e. NO LINES, NO LECTURES, AND NO LAPS) ! Remember it is the kid's game and we are the guests. Don't let the uniforms, referee's and parents on the sidelines, change the ultimate game plan. This is still just a game like hide-and-go-seek in the backyard is a game. LET THE KIDS PLAY. Smile a lot; laugh frequently and just let the kids have fun!!
